Pipes of Regensburg

I am in Regenburg, Germany for the 13th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS 2005). Something really funny happened this morning at my hotel. I was having breakfast in the hotel dining room, when suddenly a scottish bagpipe started playing. At first, I thought it was recorded music, but I then saw a group of kids huddled together and staring out the window at the hotel parking lot. I went out there and in the far end corner of the parking lot, I found a guy playing a bagpipe, tuning it or such. When he made a small pause, I approached him and asked, if he did requests. This he did and he played 'Skye Boat Song' for me, which was really nice. Afterwards, I talked to the piper a bit more and it turned out that he was from Aberdeen and in town for a friend's wedding, where he would be playing. He reason for playing in the parkig lot turned out to be the heat - because of the high temperatures we are experiencing in Regensburg at the moment, he had to keep the wooden blades of the bagpipe wet to keep it in tune.

Gershenfeld: FAB

Reading a post on John Thackara's new book, "In the Bubble: Daily Life as a Design Opportunity" in Alex Pang's blog, I came across a post about Neil Gershenfeld's book "FAB: Personal Fabrication". This seems to be a really interesting book - in Neal Stephenson Diamon Age / feed line sort of sense. A few years back I read "When Things Start To Think". Here is a link to a review at Businessweek review.

Server stats

I have now been using the services offered by StatCounter.com for a little more than two months. The hit counter and visitor analysis services are most informative. Here is a bit of trivia from the statistics collected by StatCounter for gersbo.net.
