Use SDP Multimedia from Streaming Multimedia Project to record streamed media, such as those indexed by ASF Streaming Redirector Files (.asx). SDP Mulitmedia uses the MMS (Microsoft Media Server) protocol to retrieve media files over TCP and UDP. From the SDP website:

Our resulting implementation of our MMS document has lead to the development of a MMS streaming receiver for windows media streaming. So now, not only can you view the streaming media in preview mode, SDP receiver downloads (or copies) the stream to your hard disk. This cannot be achieved with a standard Windows Media player.

You may want or need to use programs, such as URL Snooper or Wmv Recorder to detect the "true" locations of files you want to save.
