N80 IE Arrived
The Nokia N80 IE I ordered from Proshop yesterday arrived today.
The product package contained:
- Handset
- CD
- 256 Mb MiniSD card
- BL-5B battery
- HE-23 headset
- CA-53 USB data cable
- N80 manual, N80 IE "add on" manual and a quick start guide
So far I have been mostly messing with WLAN connectivity and it seems to work pretty well. If you do not broadcast the SSID of your network you have to remember to set network status to "hidden" when you add the connection to the phone ("Tools" -> "Settings" -> "Connection" -> "Access Points" -> "Options" -> "New access point"). If you fail to do so (I did) the phone will be unable to connect to your network.
You probably need the handset's MAC address at some point and it's actually printed on the front label of the product package. Look for the line that reads "WLAN: #####" - this number is the MAC address. Before figuring that out, I looked through the manual and found out that the handset will display the MAC address if the following code is typed in: '*#62209526#'

Hi,
i also got a N80 one week ago. Per UPnp i can find my Asus 500gp with the N80 but i cant access any files. (I enabled ‘Media Server’ under ‘USB Application - Basic Config’ but i have no success)
Did you tryed the Media Server and had success?

Hi Pash,
I did not buy the WL-500gP and N80 IE to use them together and I have not tried any of the UPnP stuff, but I have considered the possibility of it.
Now that you have started experimenting, perhaps you can clarify a few things?
Do the UPnP capabilities of the WL-500gP mean that there is no need for the “Media Server” supplied on the CD that comes with the phone?
That is, if WL-500gP UPnP works, there is no need for a separate machine running the media server software?
I have just looked through the WL-500gP manual which contains an example of using UPnP with a XBox. The manual specifies that music should be put in the ‘Music’ folder (on the drive connected to the WL-500gP) - did you make sure to do so?

I think you dont need any other Mediaplayer when the ASUS works. I will check the directorys an report back.

Thank you for your comments, Pash.
I have also managed to do a little experimenting, but unfortunately I did not get it to work either.
I posted my results in this post and I would love to know what you have found out…
