I have failed utterly at buying a Nokia N95

N95 is the best selling handset at mobilpriser.dkI have to realize that much by now…and it is not like I do not want to buy it - I have actually been ready to do so for quite some time.

It is just that my fail-proof purchase strategy has somehow backfired on me - my idea was to hold back and not buy until one or two weeks after the Danish N95 launch. That way, I would expect prices to come down a bit - just like they did for the N80.

OK, that time is right now and I am sooo ready to buy … but I cannot … because by now, the N95 is out of stock and back-ordered at most online retailers. Who knew this handset would be so successful? Phone models as expensive as the N95 usually do not sell that well, but here we are and the N95 is currently the best selling handset in Denmark (according to mobilpriser.dk). I do not know what has happened … did every Dane suddenly decide to get a smartphone?

What sucks most is that I have all these things lined up that I am really eager to test and try out on the N95. But I cannot get started without a handset…

Proshop expects to have N95 units back in stock in about 10 days time. Let me just repeat that: 10 DAYS!!!

The way this is going, I will end up having no other option but to enjoy the nice weather we are currently having … bleh!

Nokia N95 Availability

In an earlier post I blogged about the availability of Nokia N95 in Denmark and since it now appears that several retailers have updated their projected N95 availability dates, I am posting this update.

CDON expects to have N95 units in stock on April 19th. That goes for mobiludsalg.dk as well.

Gooby.dk expects to have the phone in stock on April 23rd.

The most exciting update comes from Goblue.dk - they expect to be able to deliver N95 units starting April 17th.

I thought I would take this opportunity to post links to a couple of N95 reviews I have come across recently.

In All About Symbian's continued series of N95 reviews, Steve Litchfield has just released part 4: the N95 as camcorder. With usual thoroughness this review covers several interesting aspects, including using TV-out; battery lifetime and numerous video samples - some of which documents just how good the N95 performs in low light conditions. The previous parts in the All About Symbian N95 series have reviewed the N95 as Navigator; the N95 as music player and finally, the N95 as a digital camera.

During Easter, MobileBurn has published a very detailed and exhaustive review of the N95. The review is really positive about N95's features and their implementation, but nevertheless regards the N95 to be severely challenged because of the poor battery life. We Nokia N80 owners knew about this. The MobileBurn review also features many image and video samples.

Nokia N95 Release Update

I have checked around to see if I could find some updated information about the date of the Danish Nokia N95 release. Most online stores just specify availability as «available shortly», but I managed to find a few places that mention dates.

CDON.com expects to have N95 units in stock on April 20th.

Likewise, Gooby.dk lists N95 availability for ultimo April.

So, it would appear as if it is going to take a while until I can get my hands on one of these things. I am really glad I decided to get an intermediate phone. While the actual handsets are still missing, the first reviews of final production units have started to appear. At All About Symbian, for instance, Steve Litchfield has published a review of the N95's capabilities as a navigator, while Rafe Blandford reviews the N95 as a music player.
