Mobile Monday Denmark

On Monday - June 4th - the first meeting of the Danish Mobile Monday chapter kicks off!.

Mobile Monday is characterized by informal Monday meetings where new stuff, relevant to the mobile telephony industry - handset models, applications, services, infrastructure, etc. - is presented. Each presentation is quite short - about 15 minutes - paricipation is free and the meeting venue changes between firms and educational institutions affiliated with the mobile industry.

The first meeting of the Danish chapter takes place at the »Scrollbar« on the ground floor of the IT-university  - see the meeting agenda after the jump.

Initial Nokia N95 Impressions

Nokia N95 initial impressions - gersbo.dkI have now had my Nokia N95 for a little over a week and I have decided to post some initial impressions. Just like I did with my N80 IE. Please feel free to comment on your own impressions or experiences.

I am going to use the time-tested »praise-criticize-praise« formula that was forever imprinted upon my mind at the NCO training school in Sønderborg.

I think the N95 is a wonderful handset. It is not an exaggeration when I state that the N95 is probably the handset that I have been wanting for the last four to five years. Yes, the battery is a little on the slim side, but because the N95 provides me with so much utility, I can live with that. I regard all other complaints about the functionality of the N95 to be mere trifles.

N95 slider wobble: “Houston, we have a problem!”

The Nokia N95 wobbling slider problemReports are starting to surface about the wobble on the sliding mechanism of the N95 - Nokia's latest überphone.

The problem pertains to an amount of play between the two "layers" of the device. When the front keypad is used the upper "layer" is pressed against the lower one, resulting in an annoying clicking or clacking sound. The problem is most pronounced when the phone is in the slide open position - and most severe in the phone's bottom right side. Obviously, this effect does not leave you with the impression that you are holding a high end gadget, costing almost $1000.

After the jump there is a video that illustrates the wobbling slider problem. I have also collected some links to ongoing discussions about this problem. Please read on for the full story and let me know what you think - have you experienced this wobbling slider problem on your N95? How severe do think this problem is and what did you do about it? Are DIY fixes appropriate?

Så er jeg vist Sonofonkunde?

Sonofon overtager Tele2

Nine tweaks that will improve Nokia N95 battery life by 328%

Tweaks to improve Nokia N95 battery lifeThere is no way getting around the fact battery life on the Nokia N95 is less than great. Almost every N95 review addresses this issue in one way or the other. Opinions seem to range from infuriated "Nokia should provide a more powerful battery for this type of device" to apologetic "a communication and multi media power house is bound to run its battery dry in no time".

Whatever the case may be, there are things that can be done to improve upon the «default» N95 battery life time. Improvements come from tweaking a few, selected settings from their default values.

I have divided this authoritative N95 battery tweaking guide into two parts: first I will show you a few basic battery friendly optimizations and habits that can be employed by everyone. Next, I provide a few advanced tweaks that on the one hand might not fit everybody, on the other hand result in the most significant improvements.

Right, let's get cracking! (more…)
