This post is a round-up of Nokia N95/Symbian news items from the last week or so.

Nokia smart2go v1.0 gersbo.dkFirst, through a series of fortunate events, I have been able to lay my hands on a second Nokia N95 handset. This handset is not suffering from the wobbly slider problem … at all!

The tenth Nokia N95 battery tweak

N95 battery tweaks gersbo.dk I just watched the 35th programme in Steve Litchfield's »Smartphone Show« series and as usual, I hurry to pass on what I have learnt from it.

Two easy steps that get you started using GPS navigation on your Nokia N95

If you have caugt any of the N95 buzz and hype you are probably aware that Nokia's latest überphone comes equipped with a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver. Maybe you also know that smart2go - Nokia's own map and navigation program - comes pre-installed on phone and works »out of the box«?

But do you know how to get started using the N95 for navigation? Do know you are able to manually download and preload map data onto the phone? To save time and money by not downloading map data using the phone. Well, this get-started-using-GPS-on-the-N95 rocket of a guide has two stages that address precisely these two issues.

Cooking with Robert Rodriguez

You probably know Robert Rodriquez as the director/editor/producer of quite violent movies like »Grindhouse«, »Sin City«, »Once Upon a Time in Mexico« etc.

Did you also know he likes to cook…and appears to be quite accomplished at doing so? I did not - that is, until yesterday when I came across a couple of YouTube clips in which Mr. Rodiquez shows how to prepare some very tasty looking dishes.

A couple of quite exotic ingredients are used for one of the recipies - if you know how to get these in Denmark, please help out by commenting…please.

Cooking videos after the jump…

Ultraconvergence

Nokia N95 is being labeled as an »ultraconvergent« device, thanks to the multiple functions it possesses. Some days ago I took the train to visit my brother who lives in another city.

I of course brought along my trusted N95 - partly to entertain me during the train ride and partly because I had something on it, which I wanted to show my brother.

When I got back home I somehow got to think about the many different ways I use my N95 and I decided to write this post, listing all the things I did with my N95 during one evening.

This is somewhat similar to Darla Mack's post about a day with the N95. Anyways, here is what I used my N95 for:

Notes from inaugural meeting of Mobile Monday Denmark

Mobile Monday Denmark gersbo.dkOn Monday I attended the inaugural meeting of the Danish Mobile Monday (MoMo) chapter.

The meeting took place at the IT University in Copenhagen and was characterized by presentations by big, well established firms - not much of an "underground", startup vibe there.

Perhaps this is to be expected for a first meeting and a very positive thing was the large turnout. More than 100 persons attended the meeting.

Continue reading notes from the presentations and see pictures from the meeting…

How to use MapLoader to download GPS map data for smart2go and Nokia N95

Nokia Smart2go MapLoader HOWTO N95 GPS gersbo.dk Smart2go is the map and navigation application that comes pre-installed in Nokia N95 (»Maps« in the main menu). Smart2go is able to download map data from the net as needed, but since it is both expensive and time consuming, Nokia offers manual download of map data, using "MapLoader" - a PC utility program that can be found on the Smart2go web site.

This post demonstrates how map data for Denmark can be downloaded using "MapLoader" and transferred to the N95 memory card.
