Ultraconvergence

Nokia N95 is being labeled as an »ultraconvergent« device, thanks to the multiple functions it possesses. Some days ago I took the train to visit my brother who lives in another city.

I of course brought along my trusted N95 - partly to entertain me during the train ride and partly because I had something on it, which I wanted to show my brother.

When I got back home I somehow got to think about the many different ways I use my N95 and I decided to write this post, listing all the things I did with my N95 during one evening.

This is somewhat similar to Darla Mack's post about a day with the N95. Anyways, here is what I used my N95 for:

  • Riding my bike to the train station I listen to a radio program (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) about mussels farming in Limfjorden…surprisingly interesting! I consider the radio to be a hidden gem of S60.
  • On the train ride I listen to some music using the Music Player.
  • I have not traveled by train to see my brother before and I am therefore a bit uncertain about how to get to his house, from the train station. Among other things I have to pass through a park-like area with foot paths. I start smart2go and the GPS so I can keep an eye on my position.
  • Before the soccer match against Sweden, I manage to plug the N95 into the TV and show some videos I have recorded. My brother's son came to visit us the week before.
  • BTW I have decided not to watch any more of the Danish national soccer team's matches - their unprofessionalism is embarassing.
  • During the evening I snap a few images using the camera.
  • Another guest at my brother's has some interesting music on his phone - I am allowed to pull that music onto my own phone using bluetooth.
  • At the table I remember that I neglected to check the train time table for the return trip. I also do not know when the last train leaves. Using my brother's wireless network I check the time table at dsb.dk.
  • Exchange some text messages with Ida. Anna is not well (teeth) and Ida would like me to come home.
  • Riding home on the train, I listen to some of the new tracks on my phone.
  • I manage to catch a bit of late night radio whilst riding my bike home from the train station.

All right, I will stop before Moby's "In My Heart" starts playing in the background. But do you agree the above list is quite impressive? Maybe I seem extremely psyched up about the N95 and if so, it is just because I think it is a really, really cool phone. As a matter of fact, I think the above list very nicely captures why N95 is the phone I have been waiting for, for the past 4-5 years.

I am the kind of person who prefers to have EVERYTHING on just one device. No lugging around camera AND mobile AND mp3 player AND … I am fully aware that others prefer exactly that…one designated device for each purpose and I completely respects that. It is just not for me.
