Image quality is equal or better with new N95 v20.0.015 firmware

It looks as if I may have jumped the gun when I wrote yesterday that the new v20.0.015 firmware for the Nokia N95 produces lower quality camera images, when compared to the previous firmware revision (v12.0.013).

I have had the opportunity to snap some more images today and these actually suggest that the camera software in v20.0.015 firmware produces images of equal or better quality.

Today, I have managed to take some daylight images outside - well, as much daylight as you can get in Denmark on an overcast day in late November - and I have also taken some macro images indoors, in poor lighting.

The following images were captured using two Nokia N95 phones - one running the "old" v12.0.013 firmware, while the other runs the new v20.0.015 firmware. I have tried to get the conditions as similar as possible by using a tripod to fix the phones and by using identical settings on the two phones.

First, compare the following images taken outdoors using default, autofocus settings - the first images was taken using v12.0.013 firmware, while the second one was taken using v20.0.015:

I would say the two images are very similar in quality?

Next are two images taken indoors, using the »macro« setting - again the first image is v12.0.013 firmware, the latter is v20.0.015:

When comparing these two last images, I would actually say that the new v20.0.015 produces the best quality - both in terms of color (less red) and sharpness (zoom in on the »Nokia« logo on some of the keys).
