S60 browser fails to start on N95
It happened again - all of a sudden I can no longer start the S60 Browser on my Nokia N95. When I try to, the display sort of flickers, as if the browser is about to start, but then returns to the standby screen. Apparently, the browser application has gone into some sort of deadlock.
This is the second time this has happened to me in the past couple of months and it is really starting to annoy me. Especially since the only way to fix the problem (that I know of) is quite cumbersome, but also because I am not really sure what causes it.
For now, the only way to get the browser to work again is to do a full/hard reset of the phone (can achieved by typing in the code *#7370#), which wipes all my settings, installed applications, browser bookmarks and such. I backup all these things to the memory card before doing the reset - go to »Main Menu« | »Tools« | »Memory« | »Options« | »Back up phone memory«. The backup makes the process of resetting the phone more manageable, only this time the backup failed to restore and I have had to recreate everything from scratch. Now that is annoying!
I have of course searched the Internet for information about this problem, but besides the "reset fix", I have not come with much.
I have read people suggest to clear the browser cache if the browser becomes slow, quirky or has trouble starting. I have a hunch that the browser cache is somehow causing the problem I am experiencing, but clearing the cache did not fix it. At least not when it is cleared after the browser has stopped working - from now on I will clear the cache on a regular basis and see if the problem still occurs.
BTW - if you are wondering how to clear the browser cache after the browser has stopped working, the answer is to use a file manager more powerful that the one included with the S60 OS. I use Y-Browser. The browser cache is located in the 'cache' folder in the phone's internal memory (so it will not be visible if you connect your phone to a computer by cable).

I have suffered the same problem. Clearing the cache did not work for me so I have resorted to installing Opera Mini Browser (the free version 3.x). This works fine (whilst the built-in Browser still just ‘flicks’ back to the menuwhen I try and start it. This proves the connectivity is working correctly and it is just a browser configuration setting. Anyone know if it is possible to uninstall the built-in Browser (I far prefer Opera Mini now).
