Getting a new phone warrants buying new stuff

Nano BT dongle, BL-5F compatible battery and SanDisk 8 GB MiscroSD.

Because I recently bought a Nokia 6220 Classic, I decided the time was right to get a few, additional items.

I ordered a spare, unbranded (orginal BL-5F was out of stock) BL-5F-compatible battery for my N95; an 8 GB SanDisk MicroSD memory card for the 6220C; and a nano bluetooth dongle, which I am sure will come in handy at some point. All three items were ordered from UK online store blueunplugged.com on Tuesday and the shipment arrived on Friday. Always trust blueunplugged.com for swift delivery.

Although I trust blueunplugged.com will not sell dodgy products, I had some doubts concerning the unbranded N95 battery. My previous experiment with ordering an unbranded BL-5F battery on Ebay did not turn out well. Thankfully, the battery from blueunplugged.com appears kosher - I have tried it, and it works without problems.

First Danish SMS novel

A novel available by SMS - big in Japan - gersbo.dk
This is what the SMS novel looks like on your mobile phone.

Yesterday, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) introduced the first novel available via SMS text messages. The novel "Max and Tanja" by authors Dorph & Pasternak, was presented as part of the radio program "Kulturnyt" - a daily show about current, cultural events.

How to get hold of the SMS novel? The novel comes in two installments, each costing DKK 1 (~$0.20). To get the first part, text 'novelle a' to 1212. Text 'novelle b' to 1212, to get the second part.

The news story about the Danish SMS novel references Japan, were SMS books are both popular, and big business.

DivX Mobile Player lets you play back DivX video on the Nokia 6220 Classic

DivX Mobile Player - DivX video on your Nokia 6220 Classic - gersbo.dk
DivX Mobile Player supports full screen play back.

I have written about the DivX Mobile Player in the past and this is really just a recap - to point out that the Mobile Player works really well with the 6220C.

There are other video players available, but one of the strong selling points for the Mobile Player is that it is absolutely free.

Getting hold of - and installing - the DivX Mobile Player is really simple and can be done using sideloading (download using a PC and transfer from the PC to the handset using cable or Bluetooth), or directly using the handset browser.

Nokia 6220 Classic camera delivers kick-ass image quality!

Nokia 6220 Classic sample image - gersbo.dk
Image captured using the macro mode - click image to see larger version on flickr.

It should be no surprise to me (since the 6220C camera is identical to the camera of both the N95 and N82), but I would still like to draw attention to the crispness of images produced by the 6220C.

I also know I should really use some other images than my own since I am such a lousy photographer. Still, even despite my n00b point 'n' click photography style, I think the image quality is evident in the images in this post…

You be the judge!

Nokia 6220 Classic: Wolf in a (plastic) sheepskin?

Left to right: 6220 Classic, 6120 Classic and N95 - gersbo.dk
Left to right: 6220 Classic, 6120 Classic and N95

I apologize for turning this post into much more of a rant than was originally intended. I started it last week as a not-very-structured collection of initial Nokia 6220 Classic impressions, but accidentally deleted it. I have tried to recreate parts of the post from memory, but it sort of took on a life on its own.

These are some initial impressions of the brand new Nokia 6220 Classic. I only received it last week (it became available last Monday here in Denmark) so obviously, I have not had the time to play with it much.

What time I have been able to spend with it seems to confirm my suspicion that the 6220 Classic is something of a wolf in a sheepskin. Like its predecessor - the 6120 Classic - the 6220C packs a punch underneath a somewhat bland exterior. Also, like the 6120C, the 6220C does not really seem to fit in…
