"Destinations" on Nokia 6220 Classic had me confused for a minute

I have been having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around the way my new 6220C manages network access points. I first ran into trouble when I launched Nokia Maps v2.0 (preloaded on the device - including map and voice data for Scandinavia!), just after receiving the phone. At first start, Maps prompts you to select the default access point to use for downloading map data. At this point I had not set up the proper access points and just accepted the suggestion from Maps. Later, when I actually needed network connectivity within Maps, the default access point did not work and I could not seem to figure out how to reassign it.

All I could find was something called "Network Destination", which did not map to any access point I recognized. Furthermore, I was unable to get to a point where I could select from the access points I knew actually existed. I checked "Settings" | "Phone Sett." | "Connection" but the "Access points" sub menu I am used to on my N95 and 6120 Classic was nowhere to be found! Very frustrating - where did the access points go?

I then remembered reading how Symbian S60, 3rd edt., Feature Pack 2 (the Nokia 6220 Classic is one of the first S603rd FP2 handsets) introduces something called "Destinations" - a revamped version of "Access Point Groups", which originate from Nokia's E-series. N-series users - and others - have been requesting precisely this feature for a long time.

I went back and checked "Settings" | "Phone Sett." | "Connection" menu, and sure enough - I immediately located "Destinations".

"Destinations" comes with three pre-defined access point groups: "Internet", "MMS Messaging" and "WAP Services". You can add more groups if you like. You assign the actual access points to these groups and the point is, that from within applications, you no longer select a specific access point, but one of the groups. When the application then needs a network connection, it will in turn try each access point in the group (access points within a group can be prioritized).

Once you have groked it,"Destinations" is an awesome feature. Good for handsets that do both 3G/GPRS and WiFi (possibly using different WiFi APs), or for handsets used interchangeably with different operator networks (i.e.because you switch SIM card).
