Best to use FFmpeg with SUPER and DivXPlayer Mobile v.0.90

DivXPlayer_Mobile_MEncoder - Share on Ovi
Video encoded using SUPER was garbled like this when played back on DivXPlayer Mobile.

I encountered a strange problem today as I was gearing up for an upcoming vacation trip abroad.

I was converting some video files into "mobile friendly" format using SUPER, the free video converter, but the converted video was completely garbled (pixelated) (see screenshot to the right), when I played them back in DivXPlayer Mobile. It is strange because I used the exact same settings, I always use with SUPER.

Friday fun at the office with Nokia E71 and BH-500 bluetooth headset

Nokia BH-500 bluetooth headset - gersbo.dk
Boss adorned with BH-500. Take note of manly chest hair!

I talked my boss into getting the Nokia E71 - an acquisition that has somehow sent him on quite a shopping spree for accessories. Just today a Nokia BH-500 bluetooth headset arrived and immediately after receiving it, we decided to run a few tests at the office.

We first checked out the sound quality by making some calls to and from the headset. The results were very satisfactory, although one critic thought the microphone picked up too much ambient noise.

Now, besides the fact that the BH-500 can be used with any headphones (with 3.5 mm plug), the really interesting thing about the BH-500 headset is the included AD-47W Bluetooth adapter, which acts as a dedicated audio gateway.

The Nokia 6220 Classic fits on the Nokia Tripod DT-22

Nokia 6220 Classic with DT-22 tripod - gersbo.dk
DT-22 tripod holding the 6220 Classic

Just in case someone was wondering…

I use the DT-22 quite a lot - especially when recording video - and I was wondering, if the 6220C would indeed fit the tripod.

Not only is the 6220C a lot thinner than the N95 I usually  use with the tripod - the keys on either side need to be taken into account. On the 6220C's left side is the "Own key" and on the right side are the volume controls that double as zoom controls when using the camera.

Unboxing Nokia MD-5W Bluetooth Speakers

I have received a set of Nokia MD-5W Bluetooth Speakers as a gift from S60. I participated in the recent "Share on Ovi" S60 Ambassadors campaign, and because I ended up ranking among the top 75 contributors, I got to choose a gift from several different bluetooth accessories being offered. I am all set in the bluetooth headset/keyboard department and I therefore opted for the bluetooth speakers.

3 steps that ease the switch to Nokia E61i

16072008248 - Share on Ovi
The Nokia E61i in all its might.

I have started rolling with the Nokia E61i on loan from WOM World - and to be perfectly honest, I am not immune to its charms. Since this is my first experience with a QWERTY keyboard handset, I am starting to get these heretical thoughts late at night - when I have put my N95 into offline mode. Will I develop a serious affection for QWERTY and if so, how am I going to cope once the E61i goes back to WOM World?

But I am getting ahead of myself, since I have decided to put my thoughts on the E61i's hardware and ergonomics in another post.

For now, I will focus on three steps that help make migration to the E61i, from another handset, as smooth as possible. It is by no means an exhaustive list of migration tasks, but just some steps I took notice of when swapping my regular work phone for the E61i.
