Looking for N79, N85 and N96 prices in Scandinavia?
I have been keeping an eye at proshop.dk and prisguide.amobil.no since both sites are usually among the first to list prices for upcoming handsets in Scandinavia.
True to form, both sites now list prices for Nokia's latest Nseries handsets - the N79, N85 and N96. All of which are expected to become available in Scandinavia within the next month or so.
I have taken upon myself to make quick price check for all three handsets, based upon prices listed at the two sites. The exercise is somewhat speculative by nature since none of these handsets are actually available - once they become available, prices will start to fluctuate. Still, the point is to establish some sort of ball park estimates of what the actual retail prices will be.
The prices listed below are the unsubsidized prices for the handsets SIM free - without plans:
| Handset | proshop.dk | prisguide.amobil.no | Average |
| N79 | 598 $ (DKK 3078) | 630 $ (NOK 3545) | 614 $ |
| N85 | 688 $ (DKK 3912) | 810 $ (NOK 4545) | 749 $ |
| N96 | 950 $ (DKK 4897) | 975 $ (NOK 5479) | 963 $ |
First observation: Start-of-the-art, flag-ship smartphones sure attract premium prices. For the amount of money that will buy you a Nokia N96 or an Apple iPhone 3G (16 GB version, black costs 1030 $ in Denmark), you could also buy three Asus EEE's (701SD - Linux (Black) at proshop.dk). It is entirely up to you.
Second observation: Circa 600 $ for the N79 means it will probably be available with a plan at around 200 $. Nokia is going to sell them by the truckload.
Third observation: I paid 1000 $ for my N95-1 handset. In comparison 700 $ to 750 $ put a lot of technology in your hand with the N85. I am getting one of those…
Bonus: Nokia has made available interactive demos of the N79 and N85 (seen at symbian-guru.com).

I bought a N96 last week, I did not even look the specs, I just like Nokia and wanted a phone with a camera with flash.
I must say I am quite impressed by the number of features, like listen Internet Radio Namibia at home or watching TV or displaying a diaporama of my kids pictures on the amazingly beautifoul screen or even on my home tv, all cables are included, even Auto loader, RGB video, stereo headset and usb.
I never had such a phone and compared to a notebook, it sucks, it is so slow… downloading at home with my wireless notebook I get something like 1Mb/second but with this phone using wireles, it is maybe 50x slower. Starting the application is also not as good as on a notebook. Guess what, it is not a notebook
Also it already rebooted about three times in the past 3 days.
If you like Tetris (beautifoul version, but not for my big fingers), rather take your phone loader with you…
Taking pictures is also annoying as the button is small and it slow and difficult to not move.
All in all I am very satisfied about my acquisition :)
Thanks for the report,
Laurent
