Nokia 2630 is the new "Mom" phone
Some time ago I asked for help finding a new mobile phone for my mom. I received several responses to my call for help, and partly informed by these, I have now managed to find a suitable handset.
I decided on a Nokia 2630 - a very nifty, small (66 grams!) and hassle-free phone. Perfect!
I chose the 2630 because a) it is simple, b) it has quite large keys and c) I found a pretty good deal. I bought a basically mint condition, but second hand specimen for 75 $. Here in Denmark, the current 2630 retail price is around 110 $.
The 2630 is quite different from the phones I usually handle - in the sense that it actually does not do much besides calls and text messages. Yet, there are a few things I would like to point out about this handset.
Below I list some of the 2630's features that I have noted in particular. Check out GSMArena for the full specs.
- Symbian OS S40.
- Bluetooth 2.0.
- FM radio.
- A VGA camera that records both images (640 x 480 pixels) and video (128 x 96 pixels).
- Numerous handy applications like stop watch, count down timer (S60 has neither), calculator, voice recorder and a Suduko game!
I know a VGA camera is rather unimpressive by today's standards, but I just like the fact that it is there, at that price point. I am hoping my mom will try it out - to find out, if a camera phone is to her liking.
Enclosed below are a collection of 2630 unboxing images. Once again, I would like to point out the size of the keys. They are surprisingly large for a handset of this size and well suited for the eyesight and "thumb skills" of older people (*older*, not *old* - ok, mom?).

Hm good, so you made the choice. I went for the 7310 as I told you. Just 150$. Gave her my 2GB memory card which I loaded with around 500 arabic, french, italian and spanish songs. Taught her how to use the camera also and how to send pictures over bluetooth to my aunt’s phone who will then send them to me by email :)
