Please help me pick the right "Mom" phone

I am hoping to benefit from a bit of crowd intelligence to help me pick out a new phone for my Mom.

These are the requirements:

Must-have: Send SMS to multiple recipients.

Nice-to-have: A decent camera.

The phone should also be easy to use, i.e. no complex menus or "OS oddities" - and it must fit into a ladies handbag or purse. All other features are essentially irrelevant ;-)

Off the top of my head, I have picked three initial candidates:

  • Nokia 2630
    • Good: Looks, ease of use, price tag (~US$ 100)
    • Bad: Only VGA camera.
  • Nokia 6300
    • Good: 2 mp camera, ease of use (very popular with non-techies - one of the most popular models in Denmark).
    • Bad: Pricetag (~ US$ 235)
  • Nokia 6120 Classic
    • Good: 2 mp camera, I have one, currently on loan to my brother.
    • Bad: Too complex?

Any suggestions? The phone need no be a Nokia - it is just what I know best, and Nokia models do seem quite competitive in this price/feature range.

Please feel free to comment - I would especially appreciate suggestions for a reasonably priced model with a 3 mp camera?

I am also looking for a phone for my mom too. Being that I’m moving to France in less than 2 weeks, I’m leaving my mobile line with her, so she needs a phone. I was thinking about the Nokia 5000, but after looking at the different possibilities, I decided to go for the 7310 Supernova. It has a 2MP camera, changeable covers (it comes in dark blue, but has a green or pink cover as well in the box), S40 5th edition, FM radio, TV-Out and supports microSD memory cards meaning I can throw my spare 2GB memory card in it and load it up with her favorite music. Basically, it’s got everything, and costs around 150$ here, which is ridiculous!

Thank you very much for your feedback!

@p@sco: Thank you for confirming the 2630 - definitely a candidate and it is very cheap.

@Rita: Great idea with the 7310 Supernova -except it is a bit more expensive here in Denmark, about 230$.

I have also considered the Doro Handle Easy 330 (about 175$), but I am not sure how my mother will react if I suggest for her to get an “old person’s” phone?
