How I learned to love the Nokia N82
My initial impression of the Nokia N82 was not very positive. It seemed to me, the N82 was nothing more than a N95 in a different casing and I just did not see the point to it.
Further, I disliked the casing chosen for the N82. I think the N95 is “chubby” in a cute way that fits the hand perfectly. I found the N82 to be big and clunky, and its “stick” keypad wonky.
Lately, I have been given the opportunity to revise my take on the N82. For over a month, I have been using the N82 as my everyday phone – ever since putting my 6220 Classic up for sale – and I must say, the N82 has been growing on me. I have really come to appreciate some aspects of this handset … maybe even love it?
So, what is to like about the N82? Here are some of the things, I have come to appreciate:
Stability
The N82 is a tremendously stable handset. Its performance is rock solid.
N95++ feature set
The N82 is more than just a N95 in a new disguise. For starters, the N82 has twice the RAM (128 MB vs. 64 MB) and a more powerful battery (1050 mAh vs. 950 mAh). Furthermore, upgrades in firmware have brought geotagging and User Data Preservation (UDP) to the N82.
Fast GPS
The built in GPS receiver is really fast to establish a satellite connection, and it is very stable.
Best Nseries camera
Of all the 5 mp camera phones I have tried, the N82 IMHO has the best camera – and it has got a Zenon flash.
I still think the N82 is rather big and not very sleek to look at. With some practice, I have become better at using the keypad, but the “stick” design is unlikely to become a favorite of mine any time soon. My relatively thick fingers disagree with it and I tend to hit the wrong key a lot.
Any thoughts? What is your take on the N82? – I know it has got quite a few fans…
