Samsung GT-i8510 Innov8 unboxing video
The Samsung Innov8 I ordered yesterday from Proshop.dk arrived today.
Some very initial impressions – I have not even powered up the sucker yet.
Build quality is truly excellent. keypad is completely even (except for the curved horizontal delineators), but has very nice tactile feedback when pushed. The sliding mechanism is firm without any play, whatsoever. Buttons on the sides (volume rocker, camera key and the special camera mode selector) appear very solid and accurate.
It is big. If comparing the Innov8 to the Nokia N95-1 the two handsets basically have identical width and thickness. The Innov8 is a bit longer than the N95-1 (10.65 cm vs. 9.9 cm) when closed – the difference in length is bigger when both are opened. The sliding mechanism of the Innov8 extends almost a full centimeter more that that of the N95-1. If comparing the N95-1 specs to those of the Innov8, the latter appears a bit slimmer (2.1 cm vs. 1.72 cm), but that is misleading. The thickness of the N95-1 is specified as the maximum thickness (the camera housing bulge), whereas the thickness of the Innov8 must be specified as the minimum thickness. If measuring the thickness of the Innov8 where the camera housing bulges out, it is actually 2 cm. So the Innov8 is in fact only marginally slimmer.
