Life sans taste and smell is kinda dull…

So, it has been a while since I last blogged - partly because we are very busy at work, but mainly because I have been suffering from a vile cold for the past week or so.

Actually, I do not recall ever having a cold quite like this one before. It is not that I have been feeling very ill - no fever and so - but my nose has been stuffed and running like you will not believe it. The worst thing about the cold it that it has completely taken away any sense of taste and smell…completely! For past few days I have been able to feel the texture of the food I eat, but zero taste. For the fun of it, I hosed my dinner tonight with Tabasco and while I could feel the Tabasco sting the inside of my mouth, I could taste none of that either…

In case you were wondering: Life without taste and smell is really lame. Not least because my three chief vices - food, coffee and tobacco have all become utterly meaningless.

I am slowly becoming paranoid that maybe the loss is permanent (knock-on-wood)?

New Job

I apologize for not posting much in the past couple of weeks. I have just started a new job and with all the excitement and confusion that comes with that, I have not had the time or energy to write any new posts.

I have taken up a position as Head of Technology Services at OnlineCity - a local company here in Odense that specializes in providing services and solutions at the intersection between the »old« web and the »new« mobile web. As Head of Technology Services I will be doing a mix of project management, product development and architecting.

I am terribly excited about my new job at OnlineCity - to me, the company appears to be splendidly positioned to take advantage of the convergence of web-based systems and mobile systems. I hope this means I am in for some very interesting projects and assignments.

How to dock GIMP windows in four easy steps

For some time I have been using the GIMP - GNU Image Manipulation Program - the open source software equivalent of Adobe PhotoShop. I am not doing very advanced stuff - mostly resizing and cropping pictures, but I wanted something a little more sophisticated than Microsoft Paint.

I have had a little accident with the GIMP GUI, though. At some point I must have accidentally undocked and closed the tool property window from the main GIMP window. It took me a while to figure out how to reopen that window (Shift + Ctrl + T), but there was no way I could make it re-dock within the main window. I figured this could be one of those *minor* things that can take ages to sort out, without being very important. So, I just left the tool property window on its own, but managed to get annoyed about the many windows that would open when I started the GIMP (4: main window, layers window, tool property window plus Tip of the Day).

Anyways, today I decided I had enough and I searched for tips on docking GIMP windows. I quickly found this forum post, which precisely explains how to dock GIMP windows, in easily digestible steps, with images…w00t!1 The GIMP documentation explains 1 The GIMP documentation explains how to dock and undock windows - but with fewer images and less explanation.

Is that a trick question?

Jessica Simpson is manly - gersbo.dk I clicked on a Google Adsense ad today and ended up at the site of the picture search engine, UTYP - part of the digital playground of the Hong Kong-based digital design company Nthinking.

Apparently, UTYP relies on its users to train the search engine so beneath the search text field an image is displayed (like the example to the right) with different descriptions, prompting the user to provide the description that makes the most sense to him/her.

No problem so far - it's actually quite fun to give feed back on a few images.

Until this image came on the screen, that is.

Så er jeg vist Sonofonkunde?

Sonofon overtager Tele2
