Nokia Maps: “Maximum number of connections in use”

Maximum number of connections in use - gersbo.dk

Ever come across this error?

As shown on the image to the left, the full error message is actually: “Maximum number of connections in use. Please close an active connection first.”.

It is fairly common and is caused by a restriction on the number of network connections a S60 handset will handle simultaneously. The site where I picked up the image shown on the left, suggests to press and hold the red “End Call” key, until the handset asks you if you want to “End packet data connection?”.

However, I recently managed to run into it in circumstances where the actual cause of the error was less obvious.

Yours truly at Mobil Monday Denmark, November 3rd.

I have been given the privilege to present at the upcoming Mobile Monday Denmark meetup.

The theme for November’s Mobile Monday Denmark is “Traffic and Mobility” and my employer, mobile service provider OnlineCity, has been asked to present the SMS-based bus ticketing system we have developed – and operate – for the regional public bus transportation company, FynBus.

In my presentation I plan to focus on business models for mobile payment based on premium charged SMS.

How to conserve battery power using Y-Profile Scheduler for S60

Y-Profile Scheduler - Splash screen - gersbo.dk

As a part of my effort to conserve battery power – and thus optimize battery life – on my mobile, I switch my mobile to the ‘Offline’ profile every night.

I used to do so manually – switching to ‘Offline’ every night, and then back again to ‘General’ every morning. I am sure there is something to be said for manual labour, but in this case, I really could do without – especially since I use more than one mobile phone (hey, who doesn't?).

Well, thanks to Jukka Silvennoinen’s Y-Profiler Scheduler I now can.

As the name suggests, Y-Profile Scheduler enables you to set up schedules for automatic switching between profiles – the application is really simple to set up and works really well.

When to expect Nokia N79 and N85 in stores

Since posting a price check for Nokia N79, N85 and N96 a month ago, I have kept an eye on information about prices and availability for these three handsets. The N96 has of course started shipping and the N79 and N85 were both announced to begin shipping in October. In the past few days, several online retailers in Scandinavia have updated their N79 and N85 product pages with more specific availability dates.

Prices have been updated too. When I last checked prices, the N79 was priced at 614 $ on average, the N85 at 749 $. Those prices have by now been cut by somewhere between 40 $ and 55 $.
