Firefox 3 freezes if uploading or downloading

Problem: All of sudden, Firefox would completely freeze on me, if I tried to either download or upload a file. I had to kill it using the Windows task manager.

Searching for a way to fix this problem, I noted how there seems to be many different ways to make Firefox freeze, but I did manage to find help fixing the problem.

In crunch mode - not blogging

I should be doing cool stuff with my new Samsung i8510 INNOV8 phone (and other phones) – subsequently writing on this blog about the cool stuff I do.

But I get to do neither of those – instead I get to work like there is no tomorrow. For the past few months we have been extremely busy at work, which is both a good and a bad thing. It is mostly good because most activities are related to mobile. It is bad because it leaves me with little time to geek out with phones.

Kaywa 2D barcode reader works with Samsung i8510 INNOV8

This is not a 2D barcode
Sample 2D barcode - Quick Response (QR) format

Just a short news flash really…

Even though the Samsung INNOV8 is not officially supported, the Kaywa Reader never the less both installs and works just fine – you just need to download the reader for another phone make and model.

11 battery saving tips for Samsung i8510 INNOV8

Samsung INNOV8 with battery

Even though the Samsung INNOV8 comes equipped with a lush 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery, you may still want to tweak it to minimize power consumption.

With its many advanced features and multimodal connectivity, the INNOV8 also makes for a power hungry handset.

In a spirit of brotherly love and humanistic altruism, I have therefore taken it upon myself to compile a list of the most awesome, battery saving power tweaks, you are likely to ever come across.

I have divided the list of battery tips into two categories: a) Settings that affect the power consumption, and b) user (your!) behavior that minimizes power consumption.

Here is a bunch of images, all recorded using the Samsung i8510 INNOV8. I post them to as samples of the sort of images you get out the INNOV8.

I have not included samples of every one of the INNOV8’s 13(!) scene modes, just the ones I use the most. I have included both images that turned out good, and some that turned out not so good – to give you some idea of what sort of point ‘n’ click images you can expect from the INNOV8.

Samsung i8510 INNOV8 initial impressions and thoughts

Samsung i8510 Innov8 keypad detail - gersbo.dk
Samsung i8510 Innov8 keypad detail

I have spent some time last weekend, and during the week, getting to know the Samsung i8510 INNOV8 I received last Friday. I have been pretty busy at work and have not had time to get this out as quickly as I would have liked, but here it is…some initial thoughts and impressions on the INNOV8.

Overall, the impression I got when unboxing the INNOV8 has only been confirmed by the additional time, I have spent using it: The INNOV8 is an outstanding piece of hardware with great build quality and several interesting features.

Software-wise Samsung seems to have generally nailed S60 with the INNOV8. There are a few glitches, however, reflecting how Samsung’s offering is not as polished, as I somehow thought it would be.

Please note this is not a full review – it is merely some observations based on about a week’s usage of the INNOV8. If you have some feature or function you would like me to investigate further, please let me know by commenting – I am more than happy to check something out and provide image or video documentation.

TV out on Samsung i8510 Innov8 using Nokia Video Connectivity Cable

Samsung i8510 Innov8 TV out cable - gersbo.dk
Viewing DivX video on the Samsung i8510 Innov8 using TV out.

The Samsung Innov8 does not come with a TV out cable included – a fact which worried me a bit when I ordered the handset. Especially since none of the Innov8 user manuals or guides currently available mention the TV out function.

You never know with these things – maybe you need some special cable that is both expensive and hard to get. That was the case with the Samsung SGH-x820. The x820 is capable of both TV out and USB storage, but did not come with cables for neither. These have to be bought separately and are relatively expensive.
