Stevie Wonder and new Ovi features rock my N82

"Master Blaster (Jammin') excerpt

I went to Stevie Wonder's concert in Aalborg last night and the man really is a musical genius. Definitely one of the best concerts, I have been to.

I brought my N82 to the concert and used it to shoot some photos and videos. Uploading to "Share on Ovi" using "Share Online" this morning made me appreciate just how much the new video quality on "Ovi", and the sound quality on the N82, rock. Check out the video above - I am aware the image sucks big time because it was recorded from much too far away, but check out the quality of the sound! It is really excellent, in my honest, non-audiophile opinion.

I was at the concert with a group of friends, all of which had recorded bits of photos, video and sound during the concert. As we compared notes on the way home, there was general agreement the N82 provided the best quality recordings.

Nokia 2630 is the new "Mom" phone

Unboxing Nokia 2630 - Share on Ovi
The Nokia 2630

Some time ago I asked for help finding a new mobile phone for my mom. I received several responses to my call for help, and partly informed by these, I have now managed to find a suitable handset.

I decided on a Nokia 2630 - a very nifty, small (66 grams!) and hassle-free phone. Perfect!

I chose the 2630 because a) it is simple, b) it has quite large keys and c) I found a pretty good deal. I bought a basically mint condition, but second hand specimen for 75 $. Here in Denmark, the current 2630 retail price is around 110 $.

The 2630 is quite different from the phones I usually handle - in the sense that it actually does not do much besides calls and text messages. Yet, there are a few things I would like to point out about this handset.

Looking for N79, N85 and N96 prices in Scandinavia?

Nokia N79, N85 and N96
Nokia N79, N85 and N96

I have been keeping an eye at proshop.dk and prisguide.amobil.no since both sites are usually among the first to list prices for upcoming handsets in Scandinavia.

True to form, both sites now list prices for Nokia's latest Nseries handsets - the N79, N85 and N96. All of which are expected to become available in Scandinavia within the next month or so.

I have taken upon myself to make quick price check for all three handsets, based upon prices listed at the two sites. The exercise is somewhat speculative by nature since none of these handsets are actually available - once they become available, prices will start to fluctuate. Still, the point is to establish some sort of ball park estimates of what the actual retail prices will be.

I have updated my N95 to new firmware rev. 30.0.015

11-09-2008 - Share on Ovi
After the upgrade.

I know I am a little late reporting this, but the rumor about a new firmware revision being in the works for the original Nokia N95 (aka N95-1) were true.

The new v30.0.015 firmware was released about a week ago.

I did not manage to find time to actually perform the upgrade until a few days ago, but I would like to share a few observations.

Regrettably, none of the items on my wish list for the next N95 firmware upgrade are included in the 30.0.015 revision. So, no UDP; no Destinations; and no support for geotagging.

In fact, the 30.0.015 firmware is not bringing a whole lot of new stuff to the table. Most noteworthy are probably the addition of automatic display rotation, and the improvements in startup time, camera image quality and power consumption (specifically WiFi). The rest of the changes made in the new firmware are mostly minor error corrections and improvements, all of which are most appreciated, but nothing earth shattering.

Nokia 6220 Classic sales picking up in Denmark

6220 Classic handset prominently featured on nokia.dk - gersbo.dk
Screen shot of nokia.dk featuring the 6220 Classic

I just noticed the Nokia 6220 Classic has slid into the #10 slot on the list of Top 10 best selling handsets in Denmark at mobilsiden.dk.

I am not 100% sure, but I do not think it was there yesterday.

Nokia Denmark seems to be doing a lot to promote the 6220 Classic right now - there are advertisements on busses, bus shelters and bill boards just about everywhere, and as you can see from the image above, 6220 Classic is also prominently featured on the Danish Nokia site, nokia.dk.

Also, Nokia is currently running a competition to promote the 6220 Classic. To participate, you have to upload your best shot from this summer (only residents from Sweden, Norway and Denmark are eligible). Everyone can vote for the submitted summer shots and the two shots getting the most votes receives 6220 Classic handsets - #1 gets an additional 3 year Nokia Maps license.

Not quite ready for Autumn

Books to keep me entertained during those long Autumn nights.

Please excuse the lack of updates lately.

I have have not felt much like writing in the past few weeks … I have been feeling somewhat knackered from working hard and I am not really up for the Autumn season that is setting in at the moment.
